Default EGR Valve

Not sure if this is the correct area for this but feel free to move it.

Question is, for these engines/controls systems, do you have to keep the EGR valve if it is not good, or can you block the ports off?

If you can get rid of it, do you keep the controller for the EGR on, or eliminate it too? And do you block off the vac hoses, or loop them?

If you do need to keep the valve and/or the controller, what are the effects of removing it/them?

Another info is appreciated.

Thanks Tyler.

I usually remove the entire egr system, solenoids etc. Purchase a nice block off plate and let your chip maker aware of it, so no check engine light/ codes etc.

If you have emissions testing in your area, be careful removing the EGR ... especially if they do IM240.

I hate that crap ... they just instituted it in our area and what a PITA. Totally silly for low mileage collector cars, IMHO ... but no waivers in our area any more.

No in ontario 87 and older do not require e test. I am just wondering is it ok to leave the solenoid in place with vac hose on it, or should I remove it and plug the vac line going to it?

Thanks Tyler.

In northern Virginia, adjacent to Wash DC, ozone is so bad, that US EPA forced five jurisdictions to conduct emissions testing until vehicle is 25 years old. Even after 25 yr has passed, safety inspectors are charged with assessing the vehicle for presence of all pollution control equipment by OEM. For GN, these are posted on placard on top of AC plastic housing under hood:
1- EGR Valve and Regulator
2 - Charcoal canister
3 - PCV Valve
4 - Fuel Pressure Regulator
Anderson Performance of MD blocked off port for the EGR valve, but valve is present.

hello; In Mass. no emisions test for a 86 T. I've been thinking about the delete lately and I might do it just for looks. It seems aftermarket chips do not use EGR so it really doen't matter if it's on the car or not. Removing it will clean things up.
My valve lost it's cover long ago and it could look better. Just like my heater control valve. I might replace that also.

+1 on this. I do it to. better if you remove your EGR valve accessories(if/any) to reduce risk of damage.

hello; On another site there's a show your engine bay section. There's a recent pic of a members bay and he's still got his EGR. The valve has the cover and as far as looks it looks good to me. So maybe just getting the cover would better the look.
It still would be nice without it...
