Default When/where to install wideband 02 sensor bung?

On a TH style DP, I believe a common place to install the bung would be several inches down from the downpipe flange leaving just enough clearance for the sensor to fit between the valve cover and heater box. Is this a correct asumption? Also, I welcome any other insight or unforseen problems I might run into?

Also, can the bung be welded in with the pipe already on the car (for a more precise placement) just as easily as off the car?

I can't wait to do a downpipe and wideband combo, get it dialed in, then slap on alky. I guess then I'll need new tires soon after.

Vertically downward, or nearly so, near the downpipe exit seems to be the location of choice. They do not like extreme heat or getting wet.

Good info. Thanks. "Near the downpipe exit" meaning as far back on the pipe as feasible from the engine bay and away from the turbo or literally at the exit, meaning in my test pipe? If I installed it in my test pipe, would readings be more accurate? How about when to install the bung? Before/after installation of downpipe or does it even matter?

In the pipe, not test pipe. At its exit, meaning down at its end right before the test pipe.

A lot easier to put the bung in before you install the pipe, wouldn't you think? Maybe you enjoy crawling under the car a bit more? Dunno...

I put mine in the down pipe across from valve cover before it gets near the a/c box for easy to get to.

I think I'll just install it in the muffler. Just kidding, thanks guys.
